Car Worship
For most churches, the Sunday morning church service is called Worship. It’s called that for a reason. We come together and sing songs that praise God for who he is and what he has done. We can worship while listening to a sermon, while giving, and while working with others.
However, I have a confession to make. My most meaningful times of worship happen in the car. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because I’m a captive audience and there are only so many things that can occupy my attention. Maybe it’s because I don’t carve out enough quiet time in my every day to just enjoy God’s presence.
Tonight, I plugged in the iPod and turned on music from Watermark’s Farewell CD. So much of this music often brings me to a place of worship. It seems to express in song what I can’t seem to create in words from my own experience. It reminds me of how GREAT God is, what he’s done for me, and that I’ve done nothing to deserve his favor. Yet, he still allows me to draw breath, he provides for me, and even gives me work to do in His service. It’s truly amazing.
I searched YouTube high and low for a video of “The Glory of Your Name” that best expresses my experience tonight. I couldn’t find one that exactly matches. It’s expecting a little much for YouTube to provide complete revelation of my private experience with the King of Kings. However, listen to the video below. I recommend closing your eyes and absorbing the music. Let your imagination paint the picture. Images are powerful. Please, take a moment, quiet your mind, and remove the visual distractions.
The images in this video are moving and may also be disturbing. They will impact your perspective. Give God an opportunity to speak through the music.
